The National EducationalTechnology Plan 2010 consists of two goals under the Obama administration: 1. “We will raise the proportion of college graduates from were it stands now, 39% so that 60% of the population holds a 2-4 year degree."
2. "We will close the achievement gap so that all students regardless of race, income, or neighborhood, graduate from high school.” (Office of Education Technology, U.S. Department of Education, 2010)
The objectives of the school system must be clear and precise, redesign structures, and hold ourselves accountable for progress and results. Assessments must be done not only for students but for the educators and other stakeholders.
This plan sounds like a great plan, but I believe sometimes we have to think realistically. No matter how well you plan and asses then needs of student’s, bottom line, not everyone goes on to higher education. I work with At-Risk students and it’s a big ordeal to get them to attend school on a regular basis. It is hard to in steal the want to learn in everyone, you can go into a situation believing that you can increase the numbers which is fine. But, at the end of the day you win some and loose some. It can be done if learning was reinforced in every home, but that’s not the case for everyone when they leave the school doors. I do agree with the plan and their connections with students personalized and motivate learning. Students tend to want to know how can they relate or benefit from a lesson or skill. Educators also need to be able to personalize what they are learning as well.
In all in some aspects I believe this draft needs to be a little more realistic in some area to be effective for the teacher, students, parents and any other stakeholders.
